Hydraulic Pumps: Types of Pumps and Their Applications

May 6, 2026
supportKK

Hydraulic pumps are used in a wide variety of machines and equipment. Their high functionality and excellent build quality make them suitable for use in various industries and applications. If you’re interested in a wide selection of available solutions, it’s worth exploring our range of professional hydraulic pumps, which are suitable for both industrial and technical workshop applications. We distinguish four basic types of hydraulic pumps. Depending on the type of equipment in question, these pumps are designed for various applications.

Gear Hydraulic Pumps

The first type of accessory is the gear-type hydraulic pump. They are characterized by high operational efficiency, which is due to the high speed of the gears, ranging from 500 to as high as 4,000 rpm. Gear hydraulic pumps are primarily used for pumping hydraulic oil and other non-corrosive fluids. This is why this accessory is sometimes referred to as an “oil pump.”

Vane hydraulic pumps

Another type of hydraulic pump is the vane pump. Devices of this type are used to transfer clean and viscous fluids as well as lubricants. They are used in hydraulic drives for all kinds of tools, such as presses, machine tools, or lifts. Accessories of this type are characterized by consistent performance and relatively compact dimensions.

Multi-piston pumps and screw pumps

The third type of hydraulic pump is the multi-piston pump. Its operating principle is based on forcing the working fluid to move by pumping it with pistons inside the system housing. Devices of this type are resistant to pressure surges and are not affected by contaminants in the working fluid. As a result, they are used in industry and can withstand even very demanding conditions.

The final type of pump is the screw pump. These devices are capable of achieving high flow rates for the working fluid. As a result, screw pumps are primarily used for fuel transport or for injecting coolants into CNC machines under very high pressure.
