Where are torque wrenches used?

Torque wrenches allow bolts or nuts to be tightened with a specific force, known as torque. The operation of torque wrenches is based on the laws of physics related to the properties of elastic bodies, which deform in a predictable, directly proportional manner when subjected to force. By setting the wrench’s torque correctly, it is possible to properly tension the spring, which in turn allows the connection to be tightened with the intended force. This is analogous to the operation of a classic force gauge. Torque wrenches are equipped with a special tab that clicks when the intended tightening force for a nut or bolt has been reached.

A torque wrench is useful in situations where screws or fastened components are very delicate, and there is a fine line between tightening them with sufficient, safe force and damaging the parts. Therefore, a torque wrench is essential wherever nuts are made of plastic or the components being fastened are made of thin aluminum or plastic, such as roof racks. A torque wrench is also useful in tire repair shops. An electric or pneumatic wrench should only be used there for the initial tightening of wheel bolts. Then, each bolt should be “tightened” with a torque wrench. This ensures that in the event of a flat tire on the road, the wheel can be unscrewed with a standard wrench that comes with the car.

How to use a torque wrench

have a built-in indicator that allows you to determine the force with which you need to apply pressure to the lug nut. After placing the wrench on the lug nut, you must tighten it slowly and steadily. When it reaches the correct torque level, you will hear a distinctive “click.” This indicates that you should stop tightening. On older models, you need to watch the arrow, which indicates the correct bolt setting. Keep in mind that a torque wrench should never be used to loosen seized bolts, as this can cause it to become miscalibrated.
