Hydraulic and pneumatic drills

Drills are devices used for drilling, reaming, and countersinking round holes using a drill bit. They are one of the basic power tools found in both home toolboxes and professional workshops. Simple hand drills were already in use around 4,000 B.C.! Modern electric drills, which serve as the power source, are a very popular power tool. In addition to drilling holes in various materials, using drill bits and cutters, they can also be used for sanding wood with a rubber disc and replaceable sandpaper, cleaning metal with a wire brush attachment, as well as milling, sharpening drill bits, etc. One of the basic criteria for classifying drills is their power source. In this regard, we can distinguish between electric, cordless, and pneumatic models.

Operation and types of pneumatic drills

Pneumatic drills operate only in conjunction with a compressor, powered by compressed air. A characteristic feature of pneumatic drills is the presence of a connector to which an air hose is attached. Through this connector, air is supplied to the device, which activates a small pneumatic motor located inside the drill. Among pneumatic tools, we can distinguish universal, straight, angle, and pistol-grip models. The first type allows for drilling various types of holes, thanks to the interchangeable drill bits they can be equipped with. Straight models, on the other hand, are suitable for drilling small-diameter holes. During this operation, the tool should be held vertically. Angle drills, on the other hand, are useful in areas with limited access. Pistol-grip models, in turn, are available for both industrial and workshop applications.

Hydraulic drills

Hydraulic drills, which use a hydraulic drive, are also available on the market. This method of transmitting mechanical energy relies on using a fluid to transfer force from the point of generation to the driven point. The principle of operation is simple and based on the laws of physics. The main advantage of hydraulic drills is the concentration of immense force within a compact and durable design. As a result, these machines operate without disruptions or unplanned power outages, making them reliable tools in demanding industrial environments.
